From project owner to client and vice versa. About the relationship between the mason and his client in Lyela country (Burkina Faso)
There are two protagonists in the construction of the walls of Lyela houses: the mason, known as the "master of the banco" (i.e. the earth to be built), and the person who called him to do the work, the "master of the house". Both are responsible for the site. Each has his or her own tasks and obligations, and must follow an established process and protocol. While they are attentive to the completion of the project, their actions and behaviour can jeopardise it. They need to get on well together if they are to see the project through to the end - a house that can produce. But the powers of both, and of one over the other, due to their respective responsibilities, can make their relationship difficult.
